10 Article Marketing Tips for Targeted Traffic

by Mike Griffith

Article marketing is the quickest way to entice motivated prospects to visit your website. These 10 article marketing tips for targeted traffic will help boost traffic, sales and profits for your online business, no matter what product or service you're promoting.

1. Stuff your articles with useful and pertinent information. If you can, stick with the "how-to" style, as it tends to get more attention in a shorter period of time. But even if it's not "how-to," make sure it's information-packed with an authoritative tone. Weave your product or service into the conversation without making it sound like an ad or a sales pitch.

2. Stay away from selling. If readers are expecting to learn something that will help them, then find out you're only trying to sell them a bill of goods, they'll quickly hit the "back" button and your article will never see the light of day. Your article content should never be used to advertise or promote your product. It's for information only. Save your sales pitch for your click-through link that will take them to your website.

3. Publish quality, original content. You can't trick the search engines with an excessive number of keywords. With search engines now using LSI (latent semantic indexing) to analyze online content, this won't work anymore. Besides, over-stuffing your keywords could get your content banned or penalized by the search engines.  And keyword spam makes your article difficult for your prospects to read. Read all you can about article search engine analysis to get an overview of how the search engines go about indexing and placing your content on their results pages.

4. Put your link in your article resource box. If you're submitting your article to an article directory, they have a section at the end of your article called the resource box. That's where you tell readers a little about yourself and where you can leave a link to your site. If your article was helpful and informative, they  will likely to click through to your website to learn more about your offer. Read here for tips on how to create a perfect article resource box.

5. Produce additional articles that relate to your topic. More articles mean more chances for the search engines to find your site. And more articles from different viewpoints on the same article enhances your brand as an expert on the subject you're writing about, which helps increase traffic to your site. You'll also need to learn how to write articles that relate to your product.

6. Submit your articles to article directories. Submitting your articles to article directories gives you additional exposure, as webmasters pick up your content and publish it on their sites, complete with your name and the link to your website. This produces more links to your site, which helps your search engine ranking. Here are some tips on where to submit your article for maximum exposure.

7.Use PLR (private label rights) articles whenever you can. PLR articles are pre-written articles on a particular topic, which you buy, along with right to edit and put your name on them. You can then  use them any way you like. The internet is full of PLR article sources. Just remember that you should always rewrite your plr articles before using them. That's because the same article is probably being published by someone else, and you want only original content on your site. Besides, the search engines frown on duplicate content.

8. Edit your article content.
The search engines use what is called duplicate content filters, which sometimes penalize or de-list sites that publish the same content it has detected on another site. To get around this, you should rewrite your article from a different angle on the same topic. That will prevent you from duplicating some else's content and help your site's ranking with the search engines.

9. Yes, you should fret over your article's title, or headline. The title of your article can make or break you. Readers sometimes don't have time to read through your article to see what it's all about. Instead, they depend on the title. If your title is uninteresting, they'll hit the back button. And that's why it's important that you learn about writing effective article headlines. Your readers pick articles with the most exciting headline, no matter how interesting your content may be.

10. Use your blog to promote your articles. Do you have a blog? If so, use it to drive people to your articles that you've published in the article directories. One technique you should use in your blog is to place only an excerpt of your article in your blog. Then add a link directing readers to your published article where they can read the rest of the article.

Article marketing is one of the most effective, yet least expensive methods to promote your products and services online. Just remember not to use it as an advertising board to pitch your product or service. People surf the internet for information, not ads.

These 10 article marketing tips for targeted traffic should help you drive more targeted traffic to your website and enhance your rankings with the search engine.
